What attracts clients to Magnet PR Group?

Magnet PR Group is a virtual team of senior-level public relations professionals led by Carolyn Fromm, a 29-year technology PR veteran. Magnet PR Group serves technology clients who increasingly need to do more with less, and who want to work with seasoned pros at budget levels the traditional agency model simply can’t accommodate. From fast-moving start-ups to Fortune 500 firms, whether in growth, diversification or turn-around mode, our clients get smart, targeted programs along with quick, nimble execution and big-agency talent — without the big-agency prices. We blend our collective skills and expertise to offer a full range of PR and communications services, all supported by a campaign mentality that starts with sound business strategy and ends with solid results.

What attracts talent to Magnet PR Group?

Our team has worked on successful campaigns in various professional relationships together over the past decade.  We’ve chosen each other because we know we can count on each other.  We have a proven track record that encompasses both mutual successes and independent achievements.  Each team member brings unique capabilities and perspectives, underscored by our shared commitment to executional excellence.  No team member has fewer than 10 years of PR industry experience, spanning a broad range of technology products and markets from semiconductors and storage to networking and telecommunications.

The Firm

Magnet PR Group was formed by Carolyn Fromm in January 2009 as a virtual public relations agency specializing in technology products, markets and services.  Our team members collaborate seamlessly on a campaign-by-campaign basis, when and where our clients need them.  Clients pay for talent, programs and results, rather than infrastructure, overhead and administration.

Every client engagement begins with a comprehensive plan including business-focused objectives, smart strategies, tangible deliverables and measureable expectations.  We pull together the best team for the battle, based on market knowledge, media relationships and other criteria.  We execute against the plan, monitor media dynamics, report on progress, and recommend course corrections as necessary.

Perhaps most importantly, we balance the long-term requirements of successful PR campaigns against the short-term demands of careful budget control, helping clients maximize their investments in sustainable market awareness and on-message visibility.  We strive for the kinds of momentum-building results that make a lasting difference for companies at all stages in the business and product marketing lifecycle.

Programs

Successful public relations programs are like a multi-stage rocket launches, and Magnet PR Group develops and executes comprehensive campaigns for each phase in the process. Each campaign is outlined in detail, executed against a well-understood and pre-approved budget, and carefully monitored so that we meet agreed-upon objectives and can course-correct as necessary.

Product Liftoff – Establishing a Leadership Foundation

Product launches are defining moments for any company, and Magnet PR Group works hard to ensure that they not only generate immediate visibility but also lay the supporting foundation for broader, longer-term business initiatives. It starts with a solid analysis of competitive activities and industry predispositions, and includes the development of an appealing story with easy-to-understand customer benefits and market implications. We know what the trade journals need, and when and where they need it, in order for you to generate the optimum coverage. We also understand what the business press needs to frame your story in a meaningful context for a broader audience. And we know how to execute the campaign so that it paves the way for follow-on corporate initiatives and associated media opportunities.

Acceleration – Building Market Momentum

Visibility can be an empty achievement without the afterburner of continuing market momentum. We convert product-launch energy into sustainable, on-message market visibility and corporate credibility. There are many methods for achieving this, including a steady drumbeat of carefully-timed, thematically-consistent follow-on announcements, along with leadership coverage in industry editorial, plus customer success story placements, market/technology primers and tutorials, and industry awards recognition. Journalists receive an avalanche of pitches each day; we help you craft a newsworthy market position and story, and determine how and where to tell your story so that you simultaneously fulfill the media’s content needs while achieving your business objectives. Our goal is for your story to be just what journalists need to write the most complete and compelling articles possible.

Maintaining Orbit – Influencing Market Dialog, Generating Audience Preference and Tracking Progress

Once a Client rises above the industry noise, it takes a consistent program to stay there. This include executive visibility and market thought-leadership programs, including speaking appearances at relevant industry venues, and the articulation of compelling, visionary executive insights — whether through bylined contributed articles, strategic trade and business media interviews, or a blog, podcast or other social media content. Other ammunition includes special events, guerilla marketing campaigns, partnership programs and cooperative industry initiatives, to name a few. Each program is custom-designed for the situation. And because a solid orbit can only be sustained through accurate tracking, we carefully monitor media coverage dynamics, report on progress, and adjust the program as necessary.

Harold A. Blomquist
Former CEO at Morpho Technologies and Simtek

“Carolyn became a key member of the Brooktree marketing team over the course of five years of service as our agency account lead.  She was an ‘outsider’ only in the sense that she didn’t carry a Brooktree business card; otherwise, she was an integral part of planning and execution for every major marketing and corporate initiative and helped to significantly boost our visibility during our highest-growth years, leading up to our $275 million acquisition by Rockwell Semiconductor Systems, now Conexant.  Whether it was positioning and communicating a critical product launch, company acquisition, or assisting with other key communications content and writing our annual report, Carolyn offered a powerful combination of sound strategic counsel and rock-solid tactical execution.”

Jim Bixby
Former CEO/Chairman, Brooktree Corporation

“Carolyn ran our PR account when she was at Weber Shandwick. Carolyn’s market area is integrated circuits and she has an expert grasp of IC technology, customers and competitors in this space, as well as message positioning to get tech editors’ and readers’ attention. The needs of our business varied dramatically over time, and Carolyn was always effective in planning, modifying and executing PR programs that kept pace with a rapidly evolving market. Article placements, category creation programs, analyst outreach, press releases, and product launches were always spot-on, generating consistent on-message coverage in the business and technical press. Carolyn offers a rare combination of strategic smarts and planning with the excellent writing and media relations skills to roll up her sleeves and get the job done. I would highly recommend her.”.

Tom Stites

Her friendly disposition and sense of humor made working with her and her team easy, and her insight into business and media made our communications program effective.”

Russ Christensen
Former manager, multimedia systems, Brooktree Corp.

“While I was vice president of marketing at Picolight, I worked with Carolyn and her team for Picolight’s public relations needs from 2004 to 2007. This was a critical time for Picolight as the company went through a turnaround and growth phase, ultimately getting acquired by JDSU for $125M in 2007. Since Carolyn had been supporting Picolight’s public relations needs since 2001, she had historical perspective on Picolight, its products, and the market segment we served. As we started to reposition the company, she developed a clear understanding of our new positioning, market strategy, and branding objectives in no time. Carolyn and her team did a great job helping us raise visibility for Picolight’s new positioning and cement Picolight as a clear market leader in the short-reach optical transceiver market from its turnaround phase in 2004 to its growth phase in 2007. It was a pleasure to work with Carolyn and her team.”

I would recommend her highly, and look forward to working with her again.”

Barry Volinskey
Former vice president of marketing, Metalink Broadband
